Frequently asked questions

  • I kept hearing similar stories from friends, family, leaders, ministers, and strangers.

“There is so much fear around being honest about my faith or spirituality (or lack there of) because the cost is too great."

“I don’t feel safe sharing what I have been learning, even though it’s changing the way I engage everything.”

"I've already deconstructed, but I don't have an aligned community or place to continue exploring spirituality."

The Center for Spiritual Reconstruction is a place to work out your spirituality. It is a community that desires to help hold and nurture your growth and development.

  • When we say God we are talking about a power greater than ourselves. We are talking about God as you understand God today. Though this is an imperfect labeling that can come with baggage, God is simply used to reference the mystery that is at times very tangible and other times very intangible. If it is helpful, some adopt the language of “a power greater than yourself.”

When we say prayer we are talking about a posture towards others and God. It is not talking at someone or something, but being open and receptive to the present moment. This often is partnered with a slowing down, pausing, or reflecting.

  • At the Center for Spiritual Reconstruction, it doesn’t matter how you identify politically, religiously, sexually, gender, or how you have arrived to this journey.

Our unifying principle is a shared desire to show up honestly and experience greater personal freedom with a power greater than ourselves.

If participating in a group, we allow others to work towards their own personal freedom in ways that may look different than our own with outcomes or destinations that may differ from our own.

  • Spiritual direction does not force you to change yourself or your understanding of God. However, it does invite you to hold space for movement or integration to occur; sometimes this happens gradually, sometimes all at once.

What We Believe (Today)

We believe the center of the universe is love and light. There is union, not separation. There is relationship, not isolation.

We believe it is better to be honest than to suppress reality. The linchpin of the recovery of ourselves is based on the practice of rigorous self-honesty.

We believe transformation can and will occur IF we can surrender to a power greater than ourselves.

We believe no one is “too far gone” or “beyond repair.” (Yes, this means even that person you’re thinking of right now.) Everything and everyone has the potential to experience new life.
